Technology and LGBT+ Location Privacy during COVID-19: A Conversation with Mr. Victor Madrigal-Borloz

American Geographical Society

The American Geographical Society and its EthicalGEO Initiative’s Location Tech Task Force is convening a series of Blue-Ribbon Panels and Leadership Spotlights examining the ethical implications of mobile location technology in the era of COVID-19 and beyond. Mr. Victor Madrigal-Borloz, an expert on the protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, will be discussing his views on how various location technologies—used to fight COVID-19—have had negative consequences for LGBT+ human rights. In a wide-ranging conversation, Mr. Madrigal-Borloz’s experience as an independent expert at the United Nations and Secretary-General of the International Rehabilitation Center for Torture Victims will form the basis for his views on the implications of new technologies for democratic governance and the civil rights for LGBT+ communities.
